Jim Thornton, President
James D. Thornton is the co-founder and principal of Thorwood Real Estate Group, LLC, based in Bel Air, Maryland. In this role, he is responsible for the development of strategy and the acquisition of properties for redevelopment as multi-family units in the Baltimore Region.
On an individual level, Jim has been recognized throughout his career for his success in business and his contributions to the community. He was the recipient in 1999 of the Achievement Alumni Award from his Alma Mater, Talladega College. Jim is a Life Member of the NAACP and a member of the Maryland Chapter of 100 Black Men.
Jim has had the honor of sitting on the Board of Directors of Visteon Corporation, a Fortune 500 Company. He also served as Chair of the Board of Talladega College for nine years. Currently, he serves as an appointee of the Governor as a member of the Harford County Board of Education, and as Treasurer and Officer of the Baltimore Museum of Art.
Jim received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Talladega College.
A native of Ashford, Alabama, Jim and Lorayne reside in Bel Air, Maryland. He is the father of two sons, Anthony and Reginald (Courtney). He is also the proud grandfather of Anthony, Jr.
Jack Larkin, Vice President
There is a great quote that says, “God can take your mess and turn it into a message.” This is certainly true for Jack Larkin. Jack has been clean and sober for 17 years. In addition to being a board member for Praising Through Recovery, Jack is also one half of Jack & Erin show heard weekdays on 95.1 SHINE-FM. It is a perfect fit for him because he is able to play uplifting Christian music for the drive home, have a lot of fun and from time to time, share with listeners how God has brought him through the storm of addiction and into the light.
I addition to the radio show, Jack is also a professional videographer and animator and has produced video campaigns for companies like GE, Verizon Wireless and Johnson & Johnson. He has been married for 22 years to Julie and they have two wonderful children. Jack is a devout Orioles and Ravens fan and is sure…next year they will go all the way!
Brian Stephenson, Treasurer & Secretary
Mr. Stephenson is president and founder of Qodesh CM, a civil/structural engineering firm in Baltimore, MD. He possesses a broad civil engineer background ranging from program management and master planning to engineering design and construction management. His experience spans well over thirty-five years as a professional engineer in the built environment and over twenty-five years simultaneously as a civil engineering educator. Mr. Stephenson is a professional member of Engineers Without Borders (EWB). He has significant knowledge in sustainable design, appropriate technology, and biomimicry in structural engineering. His travels have taken him through much of sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. As such, he has observed, first hand, the challenges disenfranchised communities face as they seek self-sufficiency and economic independence within a globalized marketplace. Locally, he is an active member of Bridgeway Community Church and co-lead of the Christian Jail Ministry there.
Sam Hammacker,Executive Board Member
Founded Clearview Window and Door Company in 1992, when he began as a one-man operation installing windows and storm doors with a showroom based in Parkville on Putty Hill Avenue. With rising electricity costs came increased popularity of energy-efficient replacement windows, and the business grew with the increased demand in the late 1990s. With only word of mouth advertising, steady growth continued into the 2000s. The Marvin Windows line was added to ClearView’s product line in 2007, along with roofing, siding and general home improvement projects. The Hunt Valley showroom opened in 2011 to cater to the growing client base in the Hunt Valley, Timonium and Lutherville areas.
Sam joined the Praising Through Recovery Team in March 2016.
Mark Mobley, Advisory Board Member
Mark Mobley is a lifelong resident of the Baltimore area and began serving on Praising Through Recovery’s Executive Board in 2012. Mark has always had a heart for Baltimore’s addicted and impoverished community, actively serving in Helping Up Mission’s mentorship program for many years prior to joining Praising Through Recovery.
Professionally, Mark is the Director of Sales at 95.1 SHINE-FM and serves as an elder at Bridgeway Community Church in Columbia. His “blended” family includes his wife Bridget and son Aaron, Bridget’s children Alex and Krista and his children Brett and Alyssa.
James Bryson, Advisory Board Member and Family Advocate
James co-founded Prasing Through Recovery with his wife Lisa. From the very beginning he has served as an active Family Advocate assisting family members who have love ones who are addicted to substances.
In Jame's professional life, he has been employed with Nestle Ice Cream since 1989 working in the capacity of refrigeration and mechanical engineering. His dedication to his work and especially his wife and their children has proven to be nothing short of love, commitment, and a light in a dark world.
Robin Keener, Advisory Board Member
Ms. Keener currently serves as the Executive Director of Homecoming Project, Inc. a non-profit state certified recovery house for women located in Bel Air, Maryland. Ms. Keener has completed extensive coursework in business administration, as well as drug and alcohol addiction. She also attends continuing education classes on medical and therapeutic treatment within the recovery community.
Ms. Keener has a previous ten-year management career at two of the Baltimore Metro area's top sporting goods retailers. Additionally, she has fourteen years of experience as manager of “Things Remembered” a retailer located in Bel Air, Maryland, receiving the company's Top Manager Award 5 times between 1994 and 2003. Ms. Keener received more than 75 awards for exceptional performance in the business management field.
